Joyce Joins the Lions

Saturday, November 24, 2018 - 12:50 PM

The East Fremantle Football Club is delighted to congratulate Tom Joyce on his selection in the 2018 AFL Draft.

18-year-old Joyce will be heading to the Brisbane Lions, selected with pick number 40 in Friday’s draft.

Despite only playing three Colts games this year due to a hip operation, Joyce still managed to grab the attention of recruiters having starred in 2017 for the State under-18 side and the Sharks in colts premiership.

Brisbane Lions, Recruiting Manager Steve Conole, said:

“He’s a really smart, evasive midfielder with clean hands. His handball use is elite and sets him apart from other players within this draft pool.

Congratulations Joycey!!

Sharks Riding for Multiple Sclerosis

Saturday, November 24, 2018 - 12:15 PM

‘MS is life changing but not life ending’ – Noel Johnstone.

That was the message Noel had for the thirteen East Fremantle players riding in his honor this Sunday as part of the MSWA Ocean Ride.

The Sharks team, led by Lachy Bailey, are riding for Noel Johnstone who was diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS in 2015.

As sports trainer for 37 years, where his services combined at AFL, WAFL and WAAFL levels, MS was something Noel thought he would never have.

“I thought I was immortal…but I got to 50 and found I was mortal,” Noel said.

His message for the boys was to make the most of life.

“Always embrace life every day and every opportunity you get to spend doing stuff you love, because for me although I can’t do football anymore, I’m still mentoring out at my Amateur club helping develop trainers, and I’ve moved into media just to be able to give back.

“For the guys giving back, it does actually get you there to know that someone’s thinking about you.”

His devotion, sacrifice and passion for the football club is truly remarkable and a reflection of his great character. Noel’s incredible spirit and can-do attitude is reflected as he continues his great work in WA sport, through the broadcasting radio station ‘Smashcrew Sports Show 100.9 FM’.

“I wanted to give a big shout out to Lachy for thinking of me and for the blokes who don’t know me for stepping up,” Noel said.

Leaving the boys with a powerful message, Noel stated “we all have a life but it’s how we live it that matters and you guys doing this is actually much appreciated.”

Morgan Davies joins the Frenzy

Saturday, November 17, 2018 - 12:41 PM

Morgan Davies is the latest youngster to join the East Fremantle Football Club for 2019.

Originally from Claremont where he registered 23 games, Davies will be an excellent addition to the Sharks midfield.

The 21-year-old, classy left footer said he was excited to be given the opportunity to play a more prominent role at Senior level for East Fremantle in 2019.

“I am looking forward to getting down to Shark Park and meeting all the coaches, support staff and players,” Davies said.

“I can’t wait to crack into pre-season and try and earn their respect."

Football Operations Manager Brad Dodd said Davies could play in a variety of roles at the Sharks.

“We see Morgan as playing inside and outside midfield but also being able to give us some drive across half back,” said Dodd.

“Morgan also did some solid run-with jobs in 2018 so he offers us some real flexibility.”

Davies marks the third addition to the 2019 squad, joining Kody Manning and Luke Strnadica at the club.

Morgan will join his new team mates as pre-season kicks off on November 26th.

The East Fremantle Football Club are excited to welcome Morgan Davies to the Sharks.

Strnadica returns to Shark Park

Friday, November 16, 2018 - 12:51 PM

The East Fremantle Football Club is delighted to announce the return of one of our own, with Luke Strnadica signing with the Sharks for the next two seasons.

At 20 years of age, the 203cm Ruck/Forward will reunite with several former Colts team mates in the Blue and White.

Strnadica, a former AFL Academy squad member, played at Colts level for the Sharks in 2015 and 2016 where he caught the eye of recruiters. Playing as a Key Forward, he was selected by the Fremantle Football Club in the 2016 Rookie Draft at pick 21.

In his two years with Fremantle, Strnadica plied his trade in the Ruck under the eyes of former Sharks, Aaron Sandilands and Jonathon Griffin. Luke took his game forward significantly at Peel Thunder, but unfortunately couldn’t break into the AFL side. Registering 16 league games in the WAFL this year, the ruckman showed impressive progress and dominated ruck contests late in the season, averaging 22 hitouts, while still impacting the scoreboard, kicking 17 goals.

Football Operations Manager, Brad Dodd, was naturally delighted with the signing.

“We’re rapt that Luke has decided to sign on at the Sharks for the next 2 seasons,” Dodd said.

“Having witnessed his improvement over the last 2 seasons at Peel, we believe his best football is yet to come. Luke has a strong desire to win his way back onto an AFL list. We feel he’ll get some great tutoring from Jonathon Griffin with his Ruck craft while continuing to build on impacting up Forward.”

Luke will be joining his team mates at the Sharks when pre-season kicks off on November 26th

Kody Manning becomes a Shark

Friday, November 9, 2018 - 2:23 PM

The East Fremantle Football club is excited to announce that Kody Manning has signed with the Sharks for the next 2 seasons.

Manning, who has won many admirers with his aggressive attack on the ball, joins the club having spent the past 8 seasons at West Perth. Manning played 104 games for the Falcons, including the 2013 WAFL Grand Final win.

The tough utility can play through all three zones and his strong relationship with new Head Coach, Bill Monaghan, was a factor in his desire to join the Sharks.

Monaghan said he was looking forward to reuniting with the 27-year-old at East Fremantle.

“I’m really glad Kody chose us and that we can continue working together,” Monaghan said.

Football Operations Manager, Brad Dodd said that after an extensive list management process, the Club identified the type of players we needed to add to the group.

“We feel that Kody addresses a lot of those needs,” Dodd said.

“He is a hardworking, uncompromising type who puts a lot of pressure on the opposition.”

“Kody is capable of playing multiple positions and thrives on making his team mates better.”

The Sharks look forward to Kody donning the Blue and White for preseason in the coming weeks.
