Youthful Exuberance to Lift Sharks

Friday, July 27, 2018 - 10:41 AM

The East Fremantle faithful will gain a look into the future, with five Shark pups making their league debut against Swan Districts this Saturday at East Fremantle Oval.

The injection of youth into the side includes Nic Watson, Corey Robinson, Cameron Davidson, Dylan Curley and Jamie Meade. After an extended period on the sideline, Mick Cronan will play his first league game for 2018.

The Sharks have lost some experience this week, with Jonathon Griffin, Nick Kommer and Jarrad Jansen sustaining injuries in Round 16 (see the full injury list here).

Colts captain Nic Watson is a strong competitive ruckman that will add height to the Sharks side. He finished with 32 hit-outs last week (Perth in total had 17), 11 possessions, 5 tackles, 3 marks and 3 inside 50s.

A good decision maker, who also has excelled in and around the stoppages, Corey Robinson is a nice addition to the Sharks midfield.

Into the backline comes strong defender, Cameron Davidson.  A very good intercept mark, his ability to read play and provide run from defence at the age of 18 is very promising.

Dylan Curley grabbed everyone’s attention this week, after his high-flying mark saw him launch off the back of Demon Connor Sing (watch here). The tall forward, with an excellent contested mark and proven ability to kick goals will provide some genuine X-factor in this week’s forward line.

Jamie Meade’s story is one of dedication and professionalism. Having worked very hard over the past couple of years to get back into the WAFL system, his league debut is thoroughly earned.

The Development League will be extremely determined this week after a disappointing showing last round. Their depth has once again been tested with injuries wreaking havoc to the Sharks list.

With percentage separating the Colts, it will be a tough test for our youngsters this week. Swan Districts are one game behind the Sharks, so it’s set to be a hot contest.

Round 16 Preview | Perth

Friday, July 20, 2018 - 12:51 PM

East Fremantle are back from the bye, to take on the in-form Demons at Lathlain Park.

The anomaly of this year’s fixtures sees the two sides meeting just five weeks after their last encounter. Perth prevailed at their home ground in round 11, with the Sharks victors in the earlier season clash.

The Sharks should be refreshed after the bye and despite not tasting success in recent times, there have been encouraging signs over the past two rounds with better pressure and ball movement.

Into the 25 this week come Michael Cronan, Aaron Holmes, Tom Marshall, Zac McCarrey, Leon Pearton, Jesse Wynne and Russell Wynne (team line up below).

With more players returning from injury, our Development League tasted success over the Falcons in round 14 and will look for back to back wins this week.

The Colts competition continues to excite, with two games separating first and fourth place. Up to ten changes will be made to the side, including three debutants; Tom Collins, Josh Harris-Walker and Zach Guippa taking the total number of Colts’ players to 55.

Content J-Mac moves into retirement after 12-year career

Thursday, July 19, 2018 - 12:58 PM - by Chris Pike

FEELING content upon retirement is usually a good sign you've made the right decision and that's how Jamie McNamara feels but he deserves to be proud of everything he achieved at East Fremantle, West Coast and Williamstown earning enormous respect along the way.

McNamara was always an exciting talent coming through at East Fremantle and he would go on to continue the Sharks' rich tradition of producing AFL talents with 19 matches at the West Coast Eagles, including the storied extra time final against Collingwood at Subiaco Oval in 2007.

He broke through late in 2006 to make his league debut at East Fremantle in a derby against South Fremantle and 12 years later, retired from the club it all started at as the Sharks lost to West Perth back in Round 14 at East Fremantle Oval.
